Secombes先生1981年在英國University of Hull獲博士學位(PhD)，1997年被阿伯丁大學授予科學博士(DSc)，1998年當選Fellow of the Institute of Biology。2002-2011年期間擔任阿伯丁大學生命科學學院院長，在阿伯丁大學創建并領導蘇格蘭魚類免疫學研究中心(Scottish Fish Immunology Research Centre)至今，因在鮭鱒魚類免疫系統研究領域的杰出貢獻，2007年當選為愛丁堡皇家學會會士并獲Alexander Ninian Bruce獎。作為國際知名的魚類免疫學家，Secombes教授曾任國際發育與比較免疫學會主席、美國Veterinary Immune Reagents Network咨詢委員、挪威研究基金會水產學科專家評審委員會主席；長期擔任Fish & Shellfish Immunology的主編，也是Developmental and Comparative Immunology(1994-2008)、Molecular Immunology、Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology的編委；現任"Genomics of Marine Organisms" Joint Research Theme within the Scotland wide Marine Pooling initiative主席、國際水生生物基因組協會理事。已在PNAS、Journal of Immunology、Journal of Virology、Infection and Immunity、Developmental and Comparative Immunology、Immunology、Vaccine、Proteomics、BMC Genomics、BMC Evolutionary Biology、Journal of Endocrinology、FEBS Journal、Trends in Microbiology、Reviews in Fisheries Science等國際性學術刊物發表研究論文350篇以上，發表綜述文章20篇。
